Orhideele - Orchids

Am primit de la mama o orhidee superba, galben cu picatele rosii. Recunosc, nu am avut niciodata o orhidee in pamant, doar deja rupte, ca atare nu cunosc prea multe despre aceasta planta. Am citit in carte ca familia orhideelor e cea mai mare din angiosperme, adica plantele care infloresc.

I received from my mother in law a gorgeous orchid, yellow with red dots. I admit, I never had an orchid in the ground, only from the flower shop, so I don't many things about this plant. I read in the book that the orchid family is the largest from angiosperms, thus flowering plants.

Nu se stie clar cate specii de orhidee sunt in toata lumea, dar se presupune ca sunt 25.000, dar la fel de bine pot fi si 30.000 specii. O treime de hibrizi au aparut din secolul 19 pana acum, marind numarul orhideelor existente pe planeta.

We don't know how many species are in the world, but it presumes that there are around 25.000, but could also be 30.000 species. 10.000 hibrids appeared from 19th century.

Fun facts: orhideele sunt de 4 ori mai multe decat mamiferele si de doua ori mai multe decat pasarile.

Inclusiv Darwin a studiat orhideele si modul lor de polenizare si a scris o carte despre acest lucru. Unele dintre orhidee se bazeaza in totalitate pe auto-polenizare, in special in zonele reci, unde nu exista insecte.

Darwin studied the orchids and the pollination method and wrote a book. Some of the orchids are based on self-pollination, especially in cold areas, where are no insects.

Exista o varietate larga de culori ale florilor si de tipuri. Flori duble sau simple, bazale sau axiale (pornesc din frunze), au multiple petale sau au sepale care se confunda cu petalele.

Dieffenbachia

Am promis ca vorbesc despre Dieffenbachia inainte de concediu si nu am mai apucat. Sunt atat de prinsa cu lansarea Soap Mill de pe 15 septembrie, incat nu am mai reusit sa scriu nimic aici sau pe BDG. Foarte rar si pe blog-ul personal. Ma veti ierta, pentru ca stiti ca ma preocupa altele momentan...

I promised that I will talk about Dieffenbachia before our vacation and I didn't had the time to do that. I am so busy with Soap Mill's launching on September 15th that I didn't write anything here or on BDG. And only a few posts on my personal blog. You will forgive for that, because you know I'm busy like a bee...


Dieffenbachia este o planta decorativa prin frunze mari, cu numeroase striuri sau pete albe sau galbene.

Dieffenbachia is a decorative plant with big leaves, a lot of striations and white/yellow spots.


Se simte excelent la temperaturi de 25-30 grade Celsius, pentru ca este o planta tropicala. Iarna nu trebuie tinuta in frig, asa ca trebuie mutata in casa.

A temperature of 25-30 Celsius degrees is great for this tropical plant. In the winter time, don't keep it outside!


In mod normal, Dieffenbachia prefera locuri luminoase, calduroase, langa ferestre. Adora apa si este indicat sa ii stropiti frunzele frecvent.

Normally, Dieffenbachia prefferes bright, warm places, near windows. Loves the water and it's better for it to wet the leaes frequently.


Se dezvolta ok in pamant aerisit si bine drenat, deoarece are cu radacini mici si multe, stranse la un loc.

The soil must be aired and drained, because has small roots and cluttered.


Planta are o tulpina cheala, din cauza pierderii frunzelor de la baza. Datorita si acestui aspect, tulpina este, de cele mai multe ori, foarte moale, si trebuie sustinuta cu araci grosi si inalti. Ca sa dezvolte o tulpina mai viguroasa, va recomand taierea varfului plantei. Eu am 3 Dieffenbachia, iar cea mai mica dintre ele trebuie sustinuta in curand. Deocamdata este proptita de geam.

The plant has a bold stalk due to dying base leaves. Because of this fact too, the stalk is soft and must be sustained with thick tall props. To develop a vigurous stalk I recommend you to cut the top of the plant. I have 3 Dieffenbachia, and the smallest must be sustained soon. Right now is leaning on the window glass.


Ca multe alte flori prezente in casele noastre, Dieffenbachia este toxica. Nu o lasati in preajma copiilor sau a animalelor de companie. Nu este periculoasa decat daca este taiata, fiindca numai sucul din tulpina este toxic. Va recomand sa folositi manusi atunci cand este cazul sa o taiati.

As many other flowers in our homes, Dieffenbachia is poisoning. Don't let it close to children or pets. It is not dangerous unless is cut, because only the juice is toxic. I recommend you to use gloves when you need to cut it.


Poate nu stiati, dar Dieffenbachia face si flori. Eu, personal, nu am vazut niciodata. Si asta pentru ca numai plantele mature fac flori. Acestea sunt albe, neinteresante, tipice familiei Aracae.

Maybe you didn't know, but Dieffenbachia has flowers. Me... personally... never saw a flower. Only mature plants have flowers. White, drab, typical for Aracae family.


Genul Dieffenbachia cuprinde aproximativ 35 de specii. Diferentele intre acestea constau in dimensiunea plantei, marimea frunzelor si modelul acestora.

Dieffenbachia type has 35 species. The differences between them are: the size of the plant, the size of the leaves and the type of the leaves.


Bolile frecvente care afecteaza aceasta planta sunt virozele si bacterioza. Daunatorii care o ataca sunt paduchii de frunze si paianjenul rosu.

Usual diseases are virosis and bacillus. The pests attacking are leaves bugs and red spider.


Va mai recomand sa ii schimbati anual pamantul, deoarece un pamant udat foarte des isi pierde din calitati. Cel mai bine este sa o mutati primavara, eventual si intr-un alt ghiveci.

I will advise you to change the soil every year. You should move it every spring in a new pot.


Acum mai multi ani, imi aduc aminte ca nu am mai avut loc si de brad, pentru ca aparusera foarte multe plante in casa (fusese foarte frig afara si tatal meu a adus in casa toate plantele de pe scara blocului). Ca atare, am pus o Dieffenbachia pe o masa si am impodobit-o ca un pom de Craciun. A fost superb! O sa-mi aduc aminte de fiecare data cu placere de acele sarbatori de iarna. Iubesc aceasta planta!

Several years ago, I remember that we didn't have the space for a Christmas tree. All the plants in front of our apartment were in our home because it was very cold outside that year. So, we put a Dieffenbachia on a table and we decorate it like a Christmas tree. It was beautiful! I will remember that winter holidays my whole life! I love this plant!

No more Dieffenbachia - Fara Dieffenbachia

Am spus ca o sa vorbesc despre Dieffenbachia, dar, din pacate, nu am mai avut timpul necesar.

First year for my vegetable garden. We started with tomatoes, dill, corn and celery. We will continue in one month with bell pepper.

Parma violets - Violetele de Parma

Ceska mi-a spus pe messenger ca mama ei e nemultumita ca nu au mai inflorit Violetele de Parma. Asa ca m-am decis sa scriu un post despre aceste flori.

Ceska told me on messenger that her mother is unhappy with her Parma Violets. They didn't make any flowers for sometime now. So I decided to write a post about these flowers.


Am doua fotografii din martie, cu Violeta mov inflorita. Mai am una rozalie, dar nu am fotografii cu ea. Dupa o perioada de vreo 2 luni, 2 luni si jumatate, timp in care am avut doar frunze, cea mov are din nou 3 floricele micute.

I have 2 pictures form March, with my mauve Violet. I had another one, light pink, but I don't have pictures with it. After 2 months, 2 months and a half, after having only leaves, the mauve has flowers again.


Nu multi gradinari aleg sa creasca Violete de Parma, pentru ca sunt plante sensibile si pretentioase. Le place lumina, dar nu soarele, le place un singur loc in casa (urasc sa fie mutate in alta parte), temperatura trebuie sa nu fie mai mica de 15-17 grade si de maxim 24-25 grade.

There are not so many gardeners who chose to care for Parma Violets, because they are so sensible and precious. They like the light, but not the sun, they like an unique place in the home (they hate to be moved somewhere else), the temperature must be between 15-17 and 24-25 Celsius degrees.


Apa calcaroasa le usuca, de preferat este sa le udati cu apa fiarta si racita, apa plata sau apa de ploaie. Sa nu fie rece, ci la temperatura camerei. Sa nu udati frunzele si florile, ci numai sub ele.

Limestone water is drying the plants, so you should use boiled&cold water, plain water or rain water, temperature room. Don't water the leaves or the flowers, only below them.


Puteti adauga o lingurita de zahar in apa cu care le udati.
Daca cateva frunze s-au uscat, puteti pune direct pe pamant cateva frunze de menta sau puteti aduce aproape un ghiveci cu menta.

You can add a tea spoon of sugar in the water.
If some leaves are seared, you can put on the ground mint leaves or you can bring closer a pot of mint.


Nu suporta ingrasamant, acesta le arde si florile sunt mult mai mici sau nu mai infloresc deloc.

They don't like fertilizer, because it burns them and the flowers are smaller or at all.


Daca vreti sa aveti o inflorire constanta si flori superbe, trebuie sa va asigurati ca mijlocul plantei are suficient aer, ca bobocii sa se poata dezvolta. Daca planta voastra are multe frunze, va recomand sa le rupeti, pentru a asigura oxigenul atat de necesar producerii de noi flori.

If you want to have a constant blossoming and gorgeous flowers, you have to be sure that the middle of the plant has enough air, for the buds to develop. If your plant has many leaves, I advise you to cut some of them, to ensure so much needed oxygen to reach the flowers.


Le gasiti intr-o varietate de culori, mov, roz, albe, chiar si rosii, cu margini albe sau galbui, pestrite.

You can find Parma Violets in so many colours, mauve, pink, white, even red, with white or light yellow edges, mottled.


Sper ca v-am spus cateva lucruri pe care nu le stiati despre Violete. Ceska, ii doresc mamei tale numai flori de la Violete de acum incolo!

I am hoping that I told new things about Parma Violets. Ceska, I wish your mother's plants to have beautiful flowers starting from now!

A nice and beautiful storm - O furtuna frumoasa

O noapte furtunoasa... ce frumos! O noapte luminata de fulgere, cu ploaie, un pic de grindina, dar vreo 5 minute, niste vant mai puternic (noroc ca am legat ghivecele de balustrada terasei de zici ca le-am tintuit in cuie, nu alta!), noi pe terasa beam bere, Mariuca dormea de rupea, chiar daca mai erau si niste tunete din cand in cand. Am ramas fara lumina vreo 3 ore, dar, dupa cum spuneam, a fost superb. Pentru noi.

A stormy night... beautiful! A night like day, shiny from the lightnings, with rain, a little bit of hail, for about 5 minutes, some strong wind (lucky me I tied up the pots from the terrace's rail like I nailed them there!), we were on the terrace, drinking beer, Mariuca was asleep, although there were some thunders from time to time. We had a blackout for 3 hours, but, as I said, it was beautiful. For us.

Pentru altii a fost groaznic! In Bucuresti au fost copaci rupti, cazuti pe masini, oameni speriati, culturi stricate, flori si arbusti pierduti.

For others it was awful! In Bucharest were broken trees, falled on cars, nervous people, damaged crops, flowers and shrubs lost.

Noi, ca de obicei, parca ne aflam in zona crepusculara. Daca in Bucuresti ploua, la noi e soare, daca in Bucuresti e furtuna, la noi e o ploaie normala, daca oamenii se sperie si se baricadeaza in case, noi suntem pe terasa, vorbim si radem.

We are, as usual, like in the twilight zone. If in Bucharest is raining, here is sunny, if in Bucharest is storm, here is a normal rain, if people are nervous and close in their homes, we are on the terrace, talking and laughing.

Whom can you call a real gardener? Ce inseamna sa fii gradinar adevarat?

Voi ma stiti... si daca nu ma stiti, ma puteti cunoaste pe Creata la Patrat. Dupa cum am scris si in antet, sunt o tipa amuzanta, haioasa, cinica, libera, corecta si lista poate continua cu inca o multime de alte asemenea.

Am tot stat si m-am gandit daca sa scriu acest post sau nu... Nooo, nu va agitati, ca n-am gandit mult!

I sat and thought if I should write this post or not... Noooo, don't get excited, I didn't thought too much!

Ce inseamna sa fii gradinar adevarat? O persoana care are gradina de legume este mai "sus" decat una care are doar o gradina cu plante si flori? Daca ai pomi fructiferi in curte te poti considera un gradinar mai de soi? Daca ai gradina si altii au doar o mica "sera" in apartament, te crezi mai destept?

Whom can you call a "true and real gardener"? A person who has a vegetables garden is "higher" than a person who has only plants and flowers? If you have fruit trees in the yard you can call yourself a better gardener? If you have a large garden and others only have a little garden in the apartment, do you think you're smarter?

Hmmm... dileme... pentru unii! Pentru mine este foarte clar! Gradinaritul este o pasiune frumoasa si care iti aduce multe satisfactii. Daca ai plante si flori in apartament, pomi sau arbusti in curte, tot gradinar te numesti!! Ca sa fiu putin (sau mai mult, voi decideti) cinica, voi da trei explicatii din dex.

Hmmm... dilemas... for some people! For me it's clear! The gardening is a beautiful passion, which brings you many satisfactions. If you have plants and flowers in your apartment, trees or shrubs in the garden, you can call yourself a gardener! To be a little bit (or more, you decide), cynical, I will give three explanations from the dictionary.

Gradinar - persoana care se ocupa de cultivarea unei gradini
Gradina - suprafata de teren arabil, de obicei ingradita, pe care se cultiva legume, flori sau pomi fructiferi, in vederea obtinerii unor produse.
Cinic - care denota sfidare; sarcastic, sfidator, insolent, nerusinat.

Gardener - a person who cultivates a garden
Garden - an arable land, usually with fence around it, where you can grow vegetables, flowers or fruit trees, in order to obtain products.
Cynical - indicates contempt; sarcastic, insolent, shameless.

Aceasta dorinta de frumos, aceasta dovada de iubire de natura, aceasta pasiune, dupa cum spuneam mai sus, trebuie sa uneasca oamenii si sa ii innobileze. Dupa parerea mea, avem parte de competitii toata viata noastra. Daca ne referim strict la subiectul gradinarit, competitia nu isi are locul. Adica, da, te uiti, afli, intrebi, ai vrea, ai prioritati, te inspiri, muncesti, dar totul trebuie sa ramana in spiritul unei competitii pozitive, daca imi permiteti licenta. Asa vad eu lucrurile! Daca participi la competitii cu lalele galbene, nu poti sa nu admiri concurentul care a inventat o lalea in picatele portocalii cu dungi albastre!

Din pacate, intotdeauna vom gasi persoane pe care pasiunea declarata cu voce tare peste tot nu ii innobileaza!

This desire for beauty, this evidence for nature love, this passion, as I said earlier, should bring people close to each other and should ennoble them. In my opinion, we participate in competitions entire our lifes. If we are narrowing to the gardening, the competition is out of order. I mean, yes, you are looking, find out, asking, wishing, have priorities, inspiring, working, but everything should stay in the spirit of positive competition, if you are allowing me to use this license. That's how I see things! If you are participating in a competition with yellow tulips, you can't stop yourself to admire the contestant who invented the tulip with orange dots and blue stripes!

Unfortunately, we will always see people who declares their passion out loud, but this passion don't ennoble them!

Trebuie sa imi pun ceapa si morcovi in gradina ca sa ma ridic la nivelul celorlalti gradinari???? Sau sa trec la chestii "grele", gen broccoli, fasole roz si cartofi mov?????

Should I plant onion and carrots in the garden to rise up to other gardener's level? Or should I plant "hard" stuff, like broccoli, pink beans or purple potatoes?

Neaaaaah, raman la ce stiu mai bine, la ce imi place sa ingrijesc, la gradina mea, ca un adevarat GRADINAR ce ma aflu!

Neaaah, I stick to what I know best, to what I love to care, to my garden, like a real GARDENER!

Nu arata perfect, mai este mult de munca, trebuie sa replantam gazonul, sa facem curatenie in foisor, sa scoatem tot pavajul din fata casei si sa punem bordurile care sunt langa magazie, sa curatam fiecare copac si planta in parte, sa..., sa... lista ramane deschisa!

Doesn't look perfect, we have a lot of work ahead us, we have to replant the grass, to clean the garden wooden tower, to remove the pavement in front of the house and to put the curbs (right now they are near the shed), to clean every tree and plant, to..., to... the list remains open!

In incheiere, o sa va bucur ochii cu o fotografie a unei flori superbe, un alt tip de magnolia, pe care o au parintii mei in gradina.

Closing, I will make you happy with a gorgeous flower, another magnolia type which my parents have in the garden.

Sambata, o parte din gradina noastra s-a schimbat complet! Adica, Dani a cumparat 7 Thuja, 2 pini gen Jenupar, pitici, si a primit gratis 2 salcii crete. A muncit toata ziua sa le planteze, a plecat apoi si a cumparat 4 pietre mari, iar rezultatul il vedeti mai jos:

Saturday, a part of our garden changed completely! Dani bought 7 Thuja, 2 pines (resembles with Jenupar), small, and received 2 free curly willows. He worked all day to plant them, bought also 4 big stones, and you can see the result below:

2 beautiful flowers in my home! 2 flori superbe in casa!

Sunt tare mandra ca au inflorit 2 flori superbe, una alba si una rosie. Cea rosie stiu clar ca este Anthurium, o floare care mie imi place in mod deosebit.

I am very proud that I have 2 beautiful flowers, white and red. The red one is - for sure - Anthurium, a flower that I like in particular.

Este mandra, pretioasa, ca un adevarat flamingo, cum este denumita popular. O putem gasi in varianta rosu, alb, galben si chiar verde. De fapt, spata colorata este o frunza modificata, care protejeaza inflorescenta din mijloc. Acelea din mijloc sunt florile, mici, multe, dispuse strans intr-un spic.

It is a proud, precious flower, like a true flamingo, which is the popular name. We can see it in red, white, yellow or green colours. In fact, the colored broad is a modified leave, which protects the middle inflorescence. The flowers are the one in the middle, small, many, tide up in an ear.

Eu am pus-o spre sud-vest, dar in mod normal nu-i place soarele direct, dar caldura da, pentru ca este planta tropicala. Daca nu ma insel, e sud-americana.

I oriented to south-west, but usually likes the heat, but not direct sunlight, because it is a tropical plant. If I'm not wrong, it is south-american.

Pentru ca in mediul ei originar traieste la adapostul copacilor, iar florile ies in evidenta prin coloritul viu, si-a dezvoltat o protectie de care trebuie sa tineti seama si voi, mai ales daca aveti copii sau va vin in vizita familii cu copii: planta contine anumite substante care pot provoca iritatii ale pielii. Nu e nimic grav, dar poate fi neplacut pentru cei mici. Nu ii lasati sa se joace cu ea sau sa ii rupa frunze.

On native environment lives under the trees, and the flowers needed to develop a protection because of their beauty. So you should take into consideration that the plant contains a substance which can irritate the children's skin. So if you have children of your own or the friends are coming with children in your home, please don't leave them to play with the plant or to sever the leaves. It's not something serious, but can be unpleasant for the kids.

Noi, de exemplu, avem multe plante in casa care pot provoca iritatii sau sunt otravitoare daca li se ingereaza frunzele. Monstera, Dieffenbachia si Philodendron, care, culmea!, fac parte din aceeasi familie cu Anthurium - Aracae. Dar cu Mariuca am stabilit inca de la inceput ca nu are voie la plante. I-am repetat, timp de vreo luna-doua, de mii de ori, pana a inteles ca nu e de joaca cu ele. E indicat sa stabiliti reguli, mai ales daca stiti ca aveti plante de genul acesta.

The common Romanian type is called Anthurium Andraeanum and it is specific to Hawaii island. Earlier I visited a blog and I saw some pictures from Hawaii, different plants, among also Anthurium.

A mea este inca tanara, am primit-o anul trecut de la Cris, ca atare florile sunt inca micute, dar a avut o evolutie spectaculoasa. Si anul trecut a facut flori, cu toate ca nu ma asteptam, iar acum, caldura solara a stimulat-o si are deja 3 flori.

Mine is still young, Cris gave it to me last year, so the flowers are small, but with a spectacular evolution. Last year excel my expectations and had flowers, and now, the sunlight heat stimulate it and has already 3 flowers.



Cea de-a doua planta am cumparat-o anul trecut din Hornbach, era la reducere, pentru ca nu avea flori.
