O mini-gradina patrata

Succes!

I received an interesting email that I want to share with you. At this address you can find instructions for you to have a mini-fast and relatively inexpensive square garden, where you can supply with fresh vegetables and spices.

You can find explanations and visual instructions, step by step, and so you can create a mini-garden that in 2-3 months can supply you with tomatoes and parsley, for example.

Good luck!

Orhideele - Orchids

I received from my mother in law a gorgeous orchid, yellow with red dots. I admit, I never had an orchid in the ground, only from the flower shop, so I don't many things about this plant. I read in the book that the orchid family is the largest from angiosperms, thus flowering plants.

We don't know how many species are in the world, but it presumes that there are around 25.000, but could also be 30.000 species. 10.000 hibrids appeared from 19th century.

Fun facts: the orchids are four times more than mammals and two times more than birds.

Unele dintre orhidee se bazeaza in totalitate pe auto-polenizare, in special in zonele reci, unde nu exista insecte.

Darwin studied the orchids and the pollination method and wrote a book. Some of the orchids are based on self-pollination, especially in cold areas, where are no insects.

Fun facts: vanilla is an orchid. Nor a sky. :)

Orchids have a large variety of colours and types of flowers. Double or simple flowers, basal or axial (the flower starts from the leaves), with multiple petals or with sepals resembling with the petals (so called tepals).

Fun facts: the dried leaves of an orchid species are used to colour the rum in Reunion.

Camelia - Camellia

Dupa cum v-am spus, Dani a cumparat o Camelie acum cateva zile. Recunosc, stiam cateva lucruri teoretice despre aceasta planta, asa ca am apelat la ajutorul tatalui meu pentru a afla si alte amanunte despre ea. Oricum, cred ca in orice carte despre gradinarit puteti gasi detalii despre aceasta superba planta, denumita si trandafirul japonez.

As I told you, Dani bought a Camellia a few days ago. I admit, I knew some theories about this plant, so I ask my father about it, to find out some more. Anyway, I think you can find details about this gorgeous plant (so called japanese rose) in any gardening book.

There are over 200 Camellia's species all over the world. Depending on the species, it can reach heights of almost 20 m., a true tree. It grows very fast, about 25-30 cm. per year until maturity.

The common colours of the flowers are white, pink and red. There are some yellow varieties, truly appreciated. Usually, Camellia blooms in late winter or early spring. Ours has a few buds already and I am waiting impatiently my photo camera to catch their bloom.

From Camellia Sinensis leaves you can make tea, the other name for this variety beeing "tea plant". From its leaves you can extract also tea oil, very popular for cooking in China.

Riscati sa pierdeti toti mugurii pe care planta ii are in acel moment. Ii place lumina, dar detesta soarele direct si caldura in apropiere.

It is wise to choose a cool place for this plant, but if you choose it, don't move it. The risk is that you will lose all the buds. Camellia likes the light, but hates the direct sunlight and close warmth. Don't hesitate to use a lot of water, especially on the leaves. I am suggesting you to use water without limestone, to prevent the calcium and salts to settle down on the leaves. Choose a larger pot from the beginning, because Camellia hates to move from one pot to another.

In realitate, insa, necesita o ingrijire putin mai atenta doar in perioada de inflorire.

For ocassional gardeners or for those who are not spending a lot of time at home, this plant is considered highly maintenance. In reality, though, Camellis needs a careful care only in the blooming time. All year long, Camellia is a beautiful plant in the garden and brings joy to your eyes.

Clematite - Clematis

Anyway, I want to say to you that these Clematis are loved by all gardeners. They have beautiful flowers, many species and a wide range of colours. There are over 200 species all over the world, except Africa. After many crossings, right now there are 400 species. They resemble with Morning Glory, because they climb like lianas and they use their own leafstalk.

Multa lume nu stie, dar Clematitele au fost folosite in trecut in mancare, in locul piperului negru, care era foarte rar si foarte scump.

Many people don't know, but Clematis were used like spice for food, a substitute for black pepper, which was very rare and very expensive.

You can extract essential oil from Clematis, but I wouldn't use it in Soap Mill natural soaps. It's highly allergic, over the cinnamon, if you want a comparison. The plant is toxic and you have to watch the children not to ingest it.

Considering that it is a climbing plant, it's perfect for trelisses, pergolas, iron arches, garden towers or fences. But, as any other climbing plant, only the stalk must stay in the sun. The base should be in a shadow. I think you can use small flowers around the stalk or you can plant it near a garden tower.

Anumite varietati de Clematite infloresc in aprilie, altele toamna tarziu.

Some Clematis species bloom in April, other late fall. Some Clematis love the sun, others love the sun, but only 2-3 hours per day. Both types are in need for plenty of water, especially during drought periods.

Plantele din Romania s-au adaptat destul de bine la clima noastra, dar eu v-as sfatui sa protejati foarte bine locul unde tulpina intra in pamant.

Clematis adjusted to Romanian weather and conditions, but I am suggesting that you should protect the stalk and the roots during the winter. You can use dead leaves or straws. You can plant them during spring time, like us, this year, in March-April. Next year you should cut the stalk at 50 cm. maximum, to create a good root and a vigurous stalk.

Revenire in forta

Eiiii, da!

Dupa o absenta notabila din lumea virtuala a gradinaritului, revin astazi in forta!

Ooo, yess! After a looong vacation from my virtual gardening corner, today I'm back! I am hoping you didn't forget me, you didn't forget my garden and I am hoping also to value my information, many of them from my personal experience.

And to add some mistery, I am telling you that tomorrow I will talk about Clematis. Nothing is by chance with this future post. Last night, my husband bought 2 Clematis, white and soft pink, one Prunus Sylvia (do you see the name coincidence?) and a Camelia.

I am hoping that I will have photos, because my camera has some problems again. But maybe I will have luck!

I am welcoming all of you here! I am wishing to have at least one new post per day. It's spring in Romania and we want to bring up-front our joy for gardening! We have a common passion, so I am hoping that you will be active again on my little gardening blog! See you soon!

I will have photos tomorrow, because Dani took my card by mistake. :)

Am adus toate florile in casa inca de acum doua saptamani si am ramas uimita ieri, cand le-am udat, de progresul lor in casa.

I brought all the flowers into the house since 2 weeks ago and I was stunned yesterday when I saw them.

Narcisa alba a inflorit, de unde toata vara, afara, nu a facut o floare macar, Oncidium de la Cristina are o floare superba, galbena, Trifoiul roz si-a marit productia de flori, Muscatele sunt superbe, Trandafirul japonez are 2 flori!

The white Narcissus bloomed, and all summer long had zero flowers, Oncidium has a beautiful yellow flower, pick trefoil has many new flowers, Geraniums are gorgeous, Japanese rose has 2 flowers!

I bought a standard lamp especially for the first floor flowers. Usually, the staircase has plenty of light, but when it is a cloudy, rainy day, the flowers are in a shadow there. I have two Monstera, Japanese Rose and two Canna.

Chiar sunt curioasa cate plante am in casa!

Of course, the set-up in the house is different from last yeat, but now looks more light, although I have more plants than last year. I made the impossible possible, I know! :) Maybe tomorrow, when I will take the pictures, I will countdown them. I am curious to know how many plants I have in my home!

Iar in curand, vom avea distributie in UK.

I neglected this blog and I am sorry, but I don't have anymore spare time!! Starting with our idea of business, with the original recepies of natural soap, the Soap Mill brand, a new launch after a new launch, I am taking care of Mariuca and Soap Mill activities and that's it! I am hoping that in 2010 things will change. We will have a rough time at the end of this year, with all the fairs and Christmas time, but I will try to write something new here, because I care about this blog. :)

We are preparing the www.soapmill.ro website also in English! This is for our friends abroad! And soon, we will have distribution in UK.

Maine va astept la fotografii, daaaaa? :)

Tomorrow... pictures... OooooK?? :)

Storm - Furtuna (video)

Extraordinar, as putea spune!

O sa vedeti in fotografii! :)

I promised that I will talk about Dieffenbachia before our vacation and I didn't had the time to do that. I am so busy with Soap Mill's launching on September 15th that I didn't write anything here or on BDG. And only a few posts on my personal blog. You will forgive for that, because you know I'm busy like a bee...

Dieffenbachia is a decorative plant with big leaves, a lot of striations and white/yellow spots.

Iarna nu trebuie tinuta in frig, asa ca trebuie mutata in casa.

A temperature of 25-30 Celsius degrees is great for this tropical plant. In the winter time, don't keep it outside!

In mod normal, Dieffenbachia prefera locuri luminoase, calduroase, langa ferestre.

Normally, Dieffenbachia prefferes bright, warm places, near windows. Loves the water and it's better for it to wet the leaes frequently.

The soil must be aired and drained, because has small roots and cluttered.

The plant has a bold stalk due to dying base leaves. Because of this fact too, the stalk is soft and must be sustained with thick tall props. To develop a vigurous stalk I recommend you to cut the top of the plant. I have 3 Dieffenbachia, and the smallest must be sustained soon. Right now is leaning on the window glass.

As many other flowers in our homes, Dieffenbachia is poisoning. Don't let it close to children or pets. It is not dangerous unless is cut, because only the juice is toxic. I recommend you to use gloves when you need to cut it.

Maybe you didn't know, but Dieffenbachia has flowers. Me... personally... never saw a flower. Only mature plants have flowers. White, drab, typical for Aracae family.

Genul Dieffenbachia cuprinde aproximativ 35 de specii. Diferentele intre acestea constau in dimensiunea plantei, marimea frunzelor si modelul acestora.

Dieffenbachia type has 35 species. The differences between them are: the size of the plant, the size of the leaves and the type of the leaves.

Usual diseases are virosis and bacillus. The pests attacking are leaves bugs and red spider.

I will advise you to change the soil every year. You should move it every spring in a new pot.

Iubesc aceasta planta!

Several years ago, I remember that we didn't have the space for a Christmas tree. All the plants in front of our apartment were in our home because it was very cold outside that year. So, we put a Dieffenbachia on a table and we decorate it like a Christmas tree. It was beautiful! I will remember that winter holidays my whole life! I love this plant!
